Why an Open Science Workshop?
Globally, scholars are increasingly aware of the value and importance of open science. The International Communication Association’s 2020 conference theme on “Open Communication” highlights how there is increasing awareness in communication studiesfor open and transparent research practices. Open sciencecanrefer toa range ofpracticesfrompreregistrations,to publication of materials and data, open access publishing, and eventhe involvement ofscientific stakeholders and the general populationin the research process. With this workshop, we aim to introduce members of the Department of Communication and Media Research (IKMZ) as well as interestedresearchers from other departments of the University of Zurich to various aspects of open science, to stir the conversation about open science, and to promote a transparent research culture at the UZH.
Speakers
Three renowned experts will join the workshop to share their insights on open science. They will talk about the increasing relevance of open science, its benefits and challenges, implementation of open science practices in your own research, and ways to open up science to the broader public, for example through citizen science.
